The latest edition of the Caribbean Premier League is all set to hit the grounds beginning from the 5th of September. In the opening match, the defending champions of last year Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will lock the horns at the Queen’s Park oval port of Spain, Trinidad. The team of TKR has been on a rampage as they were the best performers and the winners of the last two editions of the CPL. A lot is expected of them in this league.
The Patriots, on the other hand, are yet to win a title despite qualifying twice for the playoffs. This time, they will be led by Carlos Brathwaite instead of Chris Gayle who has gone back to the Jamaica Tallawahs. As far as the head to head between the teams is concerned, the Knights have an overall lead of 8-3 over its opponent, though the Patriots were the winners the last time the teams fought at this venue.
The pitch at Queen’s Park oval port of Spain is considered to be an excellent batting pitch and it has been in the same condition over time. It’s likely to be a tough day for the bowlers at the office. But there are a few signs of slowing down at the track and hence batting first would be the best option.
The weather for the game isn’t that promising and there are slight chances of rain throughout the day. The temperature will be around 26 degrees Celsius throughout.
Trinbago Knight Riders
The knights will be missing the experienced services of the Skipper Dwayne Bravo who is out with thumb injury. Kieron Pollard who has recently joined this franchise will be in charge and in the absence of Colin Munro who happens to be an opener in New Zealand’s national team, Dinesh Ramdin will likely be opening with Sunil Narine who has played some top-notch shots at every tournament.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
The Patriots have kept their explosive Evin Lewis at the top even though he had a disastrous outing last time. Brathwaite was not the captain in the last 2 editions and it will be interesting to see how he manages. The team will heavily depend on the prowess of Sheldon Cottrell.
